Paul Campbell and Kimberly Sustad are frequent Hallmark co-stars and real life friends, having led the first A Godwink Christmas movie together, as well every bit this August's Wedding Every Weekend.

Christmas by Starlight was actually born on the Godwink fix, with an original idea of Sustad'southward which they so pitched to Hallmark, with Campbell writing the script.

I loved the humor hither, and the fashion they allow their ain personalities shine through. Campbell is best when he's allowed to exist a bit snarky, and there were some genuine laugh out loud moments in this 1, a rarity for Hallmark holiday movies.

These two actors residuum each other well. Sustad is a cracking directly man for Campbell's wacky nonsense, biding her time to get off the occasional, well-placed zinger, and y'all can definitely see their real-life friendship reflected on screen. Just wish the movie gave these two something to do too programme another political party in order to get that promotion, aslope the so overplayed "Save the ____" Two of my to the lowest degree-favorite frequent Hallmark plot points in the same movie (sigh).

There were also the usual logical inconsistencies similar, Why wouldn't the restaurant you lot're hosting the political party in be the offset identify you think of to cater? I mean, that is what they do, right? No, having your fancy guests become outside the warm restaurant they're already in to wait in line at a nutrient truck is definitely much more logical.

And, they hem and haw about the size of the venue, pretending all is lost when…surprise! All her dad had to do was open this magic door and, voila, the space is doubled. That it took them more than seven seconds to suss that one out is worth a dozen or and so eye rolls.

Still, despite the ridiculousness, and other imminently forgettable plot details, I yet liked this movie more than than almost Hallmark joints, thanks almost entirely to the funny Campbell and Sustad brought.

Campbell said during an advent on the Deck the Authentication podcast that he had to totally rewrite the script to go Hallmark's approval and, honestly, I'd dearest to see what this motion-picture show looked similar before that rewrite, because I accept a sneaking suspicion I might have liked that version fifty-fifty more. And this movie was Hallmark'due south first, No. 1 finish of the flavor, and so hopefully they'll allow this duo to branch out even farther in future efforts.
